No one can deny the amount of hype and anticipation that Bethesda’s Fallout 4 has surrounding it. Fans are eagerly awaiting the game’s Nov. release date to arrive, and the title has already won numerous awards from E3 2015, including Best in Show from Examiner.com. According to a report by GameSpot from Aug.
21, Bethesda foresees great things with Fallout 4 and has gone as far as comparing the title’s sale potential to that of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Due to a strong marketing campaign, impressive trailers, and a positive reception, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a massive success for Bethesda when the game release back on Nov.
11 in 2011. As of early 2014, Skyrim sold more than 20 million units worldwide, providing a considerable leap in sales over its predecessor – The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide.
Well, Bethesda’s Pete Hines thinks Fallout 4 may outperform Skyrim and become the company’s most successful game release ever.
During an interview with MCV, Hines was asked his thoughts on how Fallout 4 will perform when compared to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Hines was blunt and said that he “thinks [Fallout 4] can top Skyrim.” He continued to add that Fallout 4 “could be our biggest release ever. But we will see.” Even with such confidence in the product, Hines confessed that it is challenging to predict how successful a game may be.
“It is part of my job to build the megaphone that we hold up to the game, and the game decides just how loud it goes. Just how big it is going to be is hard to say. Skyrim was a massively big deal,” said Hines.
Fallout 4 sees release this Nov. for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It’ll be interesting to see how the game manages to outperform Skyrim in the long run. As of now, Fallout 4 is one of the biggest planned releases for the 2015 holiday season and a Game of the Year contender.
